"I want to be the Lt. Governor of this state so I can be an advocate for the people of California in our battle to open up the political process and take back control of our government and policy making. We need a citizen's watchdog in Sacramento!" -- Jim Mangia _______________________________________________ If you want reform, vote Reform! |

The electoral process must be retooled so as to provide more choices among candidates and parties that represent a greater variety of policy alternatives, by enabling such candidates and parties to be competitive with the Republicans and Democrats. Retooling the system could increase voter participation in the electoral process and create the conditions for a statewide dialogue on public policy to take place. In particular, the following reforms should be enacted:
~ Redistricting and reapportionment: Appoint an independent non-partisan commission of business leaders, non-profit leaders, community activists, democrats, republicans and independents to develop fair and equitable legislative districts based on demographics and neighborhood and community boundaries, rather than political maneuvering and partisan advantage. ~ Full and complete disclosure of all campaign donations and spending.~ We must take the influence of big money out of the political process where our elected officials are for sale to the highest bidder. We must have free and equal use of the media by political candidates of qualified political parties. Television and radio stations will provide this fee access as a requirement for the renewal of their broadcast licenses. ~ Change voting for state elections to weekends to allow every voter equal access to the polls. ~ Preserve term limits and the open primary. Pass meaningful and constitutionally tested campaign finance reform legislation. |
